Oasis Academy Temple Quarter (McAvoy)

This is an impressive project showing how MMC can provide fast, fit-for-purpose solution. The building system employed highlighted green principles with its use of  high-efficiency LED lighting, heat pumps and solar panels, and the fact that 99% of waste was diverted from landfill was notable.

The use of timber cladding and large roof light windows gave a bright space and sustainable elements like solar panels and a heat pump allow the building to generate as much energy as it consumes. I would have liked more technical detail about design, practical challenges, sustainability and so on.

McAvoy – Orsett Heath Academy

 This is a very thorough submission showing various MMC benefits with 70% of work undertaken offsite. Air source heat pumps and solar panels were incorporated, and 99% of waste was diverted from landfill. The cedar cladding and brickwork harmoise with the building’s surroundings and 209 modules were installed in 13 weeks showing the speed of construction possible. The use of BIM and virtual reality modelling is impressive, as well as wearable cameras giving real-time progress updates, and the building has clearly enhanced the community.

I really liked the statistics on this one, in terms of how it is benefitting the NHS wait times, and speed of delivery of the project itself. The visuals of the building are also impressive.
